Jean H. Haltvick

August 13, 1923 — July 20, 2009

Jean H. Haltvick passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Capitol Lakes Pathways Rehabilitation Center in Madison after a short illness.   She was 85.   Jean was born on August 13, 1923 to Fred and Helen Hicks.   She grew up in Madison, graduating from Madison East High School in 1942.   She married Ernest Haltvick on September 29, 1950.   He preceded her in death on December 31, 1974.   Through the years Jean held various secretarial positions with Forest Products Laboratory, U.W. Madison, the Iron Workers and Cement Finishers Union office, Wild Masonry and Wisconsin Culvert.   She also operated Blue-J Ceramics for several years during the 1960s and 1970s.   For many years Jean enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch.   Some of her favorite places to go were Witchery Stitchery in Mount Horeb, Stitchers Crossing and Hospitality House in Madison and Prairie Junction in Sun Prairie.   Several cross-stitch shops in the area had Jean stitch patterns which they used as display pieces in their stores.   Jean also enjoyed visiting Olbrich Botanical Gardens, especially when the butterflies were on display in the Bolz Conservatory.   Jean is survived by her two sons, Fred Haltvick and his partner Diane Johnson of Monona, and Steven Haltvick of Madison.   She is further survived by her sister-in-law Mary Schulz of Milwaukee, nieces Mary Gillham (David Cloninger) of Annandale, New Jersey and Paula (Joe) Balestrieri of Milwaukee, nephew Robert Schulz of Milwaukee, other relatives, several close friends and her six cats.   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald Hicks, her sister-in-law Alice Vlasaty, other family members and close friends.   In accordance with Jean's wishes there will be no visitation.   A private graveside service will be held at a later date.   Memorials in Jean's name can be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens or the Dane County Humane Society.   Jean's family would like to thank the staff at Capitol Lakes for the wonderful care they provided during her stay there.
