Jean Clinchy Vila

Madison - Jean Clinchy Vila, age 85, died on Sunday, April 25, 2010 with her daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Geraldo by her side. She was born on February 25, 1925 to Russell and Evelina (Gebhardt) Clinchy in Cornwall, Connecticut. She is preceded in death by her brother Evans Clinchy, and her husband, Joseph S. Vila, Jr. Jean is survived by her children Andrew Clinchy Vila, Katharine Vila (Christopher Byers) and Sarah (Geraldo) VilaCruz. She was the proud grandmother of Evan and Aaron Vila, Jordan and Nicholas Byers, and Georgia and Simon VilaCruz.

Jean went to Connecticut College for Women and married Joseph S. Vila in 1949. She loved her family, books, tennis, politics, good food, gardening, Ocean City, NJ, and her many pets. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the First Congregational Church, 1609 University Avenue, Madison Wisconsin, 53726. Donations may be sent to Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco, the Humane Society or The Human Rights Campaign.
