Stoughton- Jeanette Evangeline Carpenter, age 79, died on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born in Stoughton on April 26, 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Iona (Korth) Rockney. Jeanette attended Stoughton Public Schools and graduated in 1948. She furthered her education at Luther College, majoring in English and minoring in Bible. Jeanette taught at Monroe High School for one year. She then taught Language Arts for the Stoughton High School for 30 years retiring in 1990. On December 5, 1953 she married James Eugene Carpenter, who preceded her in death in 1993. Jeanette enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Stoughton Retired Teachers Tigers. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Sally Jo Patel; grandson, James Krishan Patel; and nieces and nephews, Darlene Myles, Wallace (Carol) Myles, Marylou O'Rouke and Wendell (Jean) Myles. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; brother, Elmer Rockney; sister, Gladys (William) Myles; and nephew, Charles O'Rouke. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Rem officiating. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Stoughton American Legion following the services. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. A special thank you to Pastor Richard Rem and for the many kindnesses of family and friends.
