Jeanne Lee Devereaux Kiley

February 12, 1925 — June 30, 2011

Jeanne Lee Devereaux Kiley died June 30, 2011 at home following a long illness. Her life was rich, varied and devoted to serving family and community, always with grace and gentleness.

Jeanne Lee was born in Madison to Harold Edward Devereaux and Margaret Lucile Chappel. She graduated Randall School, West High and in 1946 the University of Wisconsin, where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta. A lifelong flutist, she played in high school, university and briefly, the Madison Symphony orchestras, where she was a member of the MSO League.

Her adventuresome spirit led to fashion retailing with Manchester's in Madison, Abraham & Straus and Everitt Hat Company in New York. After a grand tour of Europe in 1951, she began with Neiman Marcus in Dallas. Her love of travel inspired family adventures to the Algarve, Languedoc, Tuscany, hiking in Switzerland and Colorado, and countless ski vacations. Learning to ski on the back of Bascom Hill she began a family tradition that continues.

In 1953 Jeanne Lee was united in marriage with Maurice W. Kiley, Jr. They lived in Maple Bluff fifty years, where she was an active member of the Maple Bluff Garden Club, the Lakewood School PTA, a circle of dear friends, the Knitwits, and supported every imaginable family and children's pursuit.

Dedicated to community service, Jeanne Lee is past president of the Attic Angel Association and a member for 45 years. She is also past president of the Visiting Nurse Service, member of PEO Chapter V and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the United Way. She is a third generation member of Christ Presbyterian Church, three times elected an Elder and a member of the Service League.

All who knew her, whether as Lovely Lady, Mom, Gomma or Jeanne Lee, will profoundly miss her gracious manner, gentle bearing, kindness, delicious cooking, quick smile, thoughtful counsel, artistic touch, concern for others and deep devotion to her family.

Jeanne Lee is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-eight years, Maury, and their children: Susan Jeanne Kiley Bush and her husband Thomas Merlin Bush, Richard Devereaux Kiley and his wife Victoria Elizabeth King; and five grandchildren: Christopher Kiley Bush, Brian Devereaux Bush, Michael Thomas Bush, Katherine Jeanne Bush and Kristin Brewster Kiley.

Jeanne Lee's life will be celebrated at Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will begin at 10:00 AM; lunch will be served following the service. There will be a family burial service at Forest Hill Cemetery.
