Madison - Jeanne Lang passed into the next life on January 2, 2012. Jeanne was born in Madison on September 7, 1927 to Eugene and Evelyn Herrling, and lived her entire life in Madison. She attended West High School before attending nursing school at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. While working as a nurse at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in 1954, she met Raymond Lang Jr., who was visiting a patient of hers. Later that week, she met Ray again at an Arthur Murray School of Dance mixer. When she returned home that evening, she told her mother, "I've met the most wonderful man and I'm going to marry him." Jeanne and Ray were married on June 11, 1955. Jeanne worked for the Visiting Nurse Service before she left nursing to raise a family. Her four children, Craig, Chris, Tim, and Mary, were the pride of her life. Jeanne also loved spending time at her parents' home on Lake Mendota, and was a devoted daughter and sister. Jeanne was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds feed from the flowers on her back deck. She fed the birds and squirrels each day. Jeanne also loved dogs, especially dachshunds, and her home was never without at least one dog. Jeanne and Ray spent time each summer in Northern Wisconsin, where she was always happy to hear loons singing. They spent many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, and loved to have friends and family come visit. Jeanne especially delighted in getting the family together for Christmas, and this past Christmas was no exception. Her family will miss her sorely, especially at the holidays. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Evelyn (Waldron) Herrling. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Raymond; her children, Craig (Gwyn) Lang, Chris Lang, Tim Lang, and Mary Lang Reames; by one grandchild, Justin Reames; and by her brother, Albert Herrling. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring, professional staff at Meriter Hospital's cardiac clinic for the care she received in her last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church in Madison, Wisconsin, to the Dane County Humane Society, or Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. A memorial service and celebration of Jeanne's life will be held on Friday, January 6, at 4:00 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI, (608) 238-3434.
