Jeffrey Scott Modahl- There are those in life that leave an indelible mark, that influence and shape our own story, their very presence brightening our lives, enriching our souls. Jeff was every bit this person for so many.
Jeff was born April 25, 1965 in La Crosse, WI to parents Doris and Roy Modahl. A childhood deeply rooted in the 1970’s, Jeff had rock and roll in his veins and visions of commanding his own Starship Enterprise. Determined to forge his own path on his own terms. He graduated from Central High School in 1983 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, an experience that would help chart his course through life.
After a 3-year stint in the Navy, Jeff returned to La Crosse in 1986. He enrolled at Western Wisconsin Technical College where he received his degree in mechanical engineering. An apprenticeship during school turned into his first career job, working for Halderson Corporation of La Crosse. With an adeptness for learning the business side of the HVAC industry, and his skills as a people person, it wasn’t long before Jeff was ready to start a business of his own. By the mid 1990’s Jeff was a father to 3 beautiful children and had formed his own HVAC controls business based out of Wausau, WI. A devoted father and successful businessman, his company and children growing with each passing day, Jeff would eventually relocate to Madison, WI where he would base his “Enterprise” - Modahl Controls.
The love and devotion he provided to his family was immense. He navigated life with a unique blend of wisdom, humility, and humor. His children always his central focus. His family always eager for the next moment they got to share with him. He loved music, art, photography, travel, and discovering new gadgets that would fascinate and entertain him.
Whether you were a family member, friend, business acquaintance, or knew him more casually, the sentiments were consistent and true: smart, funny, kind, understanding, humble, loving, an all-around great guy. If you were fortunate to have spent time with him, your life was made all the richer. Jeff lived his life on his own terms and his own schedule, never arriving on time but precisely when he meant to, and we loved him for it. His family was everything to him, and He to us.
Forever loved. Forever missed.
Jeff’s spirit continues through the lives of his children (Tiffany, Brandon, Melissa), granddaughter (Aviana), parents (Doris, Roy), siblings (Diane, Mike, Steve), and the many friends, relatives, and colleagues whose lives he touched.
