FITCHBURG
Jeffrey Michael Da Walt, age 66, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, when cancer stole his life much too soon. Born on August 26, 1950, in Madison to Richard and Katie (Van Etten) Da Walt, Jeff was the fourth born in a large family of seven children. A 1968 graduate of Oregon High School, Jeff was also a proud Veteran, having served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1970-1972. He also enjoyed a career as a sheet metal worker throughout his life.
Jeff knew no strangers and he never met a beer he didn't like, including his favorite beer "yours and cold." He grew up on Lake Waubesa and it was this laid-back, good-time environment that framed the very essence of Jeff's fun-loving personality. Jeff was always the first to buy a round and was quick-witted with a loud, infectious laugh.
After a stint as a flirtatious lady's man, Jeff settled down and married the love of his life, Jeannie (Knutson), on June 7, 1980. Jeff and Jeannie lived the greater part of their life together in McFarland, enjoying views of his beloved lake, boating, and fishing. Hunting trips in Wisconsin's north woods were a highlight of Jeff's life, even though it was more about the experience with friends and family, than the deer. Above all else, Jeff cherished his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Jeff was much loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Jeannie; three children, Bryce (Julie) Da Walt, Leigh (Kevin) Burmeister, and Guy (Chantel Pokorny) Da Walt; four grandchildren, Giovanina Da Walt, Broox, Cashton, and Presley Burmeister; one brother, Nick (Su) Da Walt; two sisters, Judy Merwin and Kim Da Walt; mother-in-law, Bonnie Barstad; mother of Bryce, Jane (Quartuccio) Fasking, and countless other friends and relatives who had the good fortune and privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Karen White, Jackie Da Walt, and on July 16, 2017, Kelly Beauchaine.
A Celebration of Jeff's Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. A reception will follow.
Please share your memories of Jeff.
