MADISON Jerilyn (Jeri) Walker
Jeri Walker, age 58, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Meriter Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Her best friend and beloved husband and family members were at her side and comforted her.
She became very active in both 'TeamSurvivor Madison' and 'Gilda's Club' volunteering many hours to each and, equally important, developing many friends along the way who helped her cope with cancer and who comforted her greatly in her final months.
Jeri lived for her husband, her family, her friends and her dog 'Jasper'. Spending time with any of those gave her great joy and fulfillment. Those who knew her best could often be found using the terms 'compassionate' or 'caring' when talking about her and said that she always put the needs of her friends and loved ones ahead of her own.
She was sometimes hesitant to try new things, but she never let that hold her back. With the support of her husband, family and friends, activities like zip-lining and Dragon Boating were easily conquered.
Jeri worked for 36 years for the University of Wisconsin where she also developed many life-long friends.
Jeri will be joining her mother, Elma Daniels, her father, Keith Daniels, and her brother, Morris Scherer, all who preceded her in death.
Those left behind and who are grieving her passing are her wonderful husband and caretaker James Walker, her brother, Philip Scherer and his wife Myra. Jeri also took great pride in her niece, Jodie Anderson and her husband Christopher as well as her nephew Jeff Scherer and his wife Kim. The seven children of those two families, Logan, Gavin, Olivia, Camille, Caden, Corrinne and Easton were a great sense of pride to Jeri and are mourning her loss as well.
Jeri's wishes were that any memorials be directed to TeamSurvivor Madison, PO Box 46603, Madison, WI 53744 or Gilda's Club, 7907 UW Health Ct., Middleton, WI 53562. The family would also like to thank the wonderful team at the Cancer Center at 1 S. Park St. in Madison for their care and compassion, which meant a lot to Jeri and those closest to her.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
A memory board will be constructed at the funeral home and those want, are encouraged to bring photos, prayers, or short notes that they wish to share with Jeri's family and friends.
