Waunakee -- Jerome John Danzinger, age 74 died Thursday, December 24, 2009. Jerome was born February 18, 1935 in Durand, WI, the son of Joseph and Rose (Meixner) Danzinger. He grew up on the family farm that was homesteaded by his grandparents who had emigrated from Austria. After graduation from high school, Jerome enlisted in the Army. Having grown up on a farm, Jerome could drive anything with a motor and wheels so he served in motor pool. He served as military escort and driver, his most noted duty being a participant in John F. Kennedy's inaugural parade. Jerome was most proud of his duty served in the Military Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. After service, he moved to Chicago where he worked in the stock room at Marshall Field's and attended DeVry University. Upon graduation from DeVry Jerome got a job with the small upstart company, IBM. He worked as a Field Engineer with IBM until his retirement. After retirement Jerome was a bus driver for the Waunakee School District, the job he was most proud of and often spoke of fondly. Jerome's passions were playing cards, family gatherings, listening to Daniel O'Donnell and being ""Grandpa"". Jerome is survived by his son, Robert, Waunakee; daughters, Sandy (A.J.) Devine, Madison and Terri Danzinger, Durand; grandchildren, Matt, Emily Keaton and Braeden and by his three sisters and two brothers. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and infant son. Funeral services for Jerome will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South St., Waunakee, WI 53597. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. The family is most grateful for the wonderful care and compassion provided to Jerome by St Mary's Hospital and HospiceCare.
