Jerry E. Dorn

Sun Prairie- Jerry E. Dorn, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Madison on August 6, 1948, the son of Carl and Jean Dorn.

Jerry graduated from Madison West High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served his country honorably during Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart. On July 29, 1972 Jerry married the love of his life Ann Hermanson. In 1976 Jerry began building his dream home, which he finished in February of 1977. Jerry and Ann enjoyed vacationing, serving as active members of Peace Lutheran Church, and spending time with friends and family, especially with their children and grandchildren. He worked at the same physical location, WI Building Supply, from 1971 to 2016 when he retired. Jerry enjoyed hunting, napping, spending time with Ann, and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school activities and events. He was a true gentleman, always having a nice thing to say, and exemplified God’s love with his kindness to everyone. He was light-hearted, genuinely loved talking to everyone, and always enjoyed a good laugh. Jerry was very selfless, putting others first, most of all taking loving care of Ann.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann; three daughters, Jessica (Danny Kruger) Jensen, Miriam (Matt) Reid, and Adrianne (Kevin Stewart) Dorn; 11 grandchildren, Tyler (Lizzy) Jensen, Hannah (Patrick) Holte, Jamie Holte, Jarred (Alina) Holte, Brianna Dorn, Isabella Reid, Gabriel Reid, Alayna Reid, Dominic Reid, Nevaeh Dorn, and Odin Knope; great grandson, James Jensen; two sisters, Rosie Nonn and Dee Olsen; brothers, Ray Nonn and Mike Loniello; Ann’s siblings, who he loved as his own, very close sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Tom) Retzlaff; and brothers, Roger (Lynn) Hermanson, Jim (Julie) Hermanson, Pastor Greg (Carol) Hermanson, and Rick (Lisa) Hermanson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Lily Dorn; and siblings, Virginia Loniello, Cathy Nonn, Linus Nonn, and Dennis Olsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, 1007 Stonehaven Road, Sun Prairie, with Rev. Luke Werre officiating. Military honors will follow. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following the services, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services at church on Saturday.
