Joan Smith

Joan Kathleen Smith, age 85 of Madison passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Brightstar of Madison.

The former Joan Campbell was born on January 20, 1933 in Hartford, the daughter of James and Mable (Craig) Campbell. She married Jack Smith on April 27, 1957 in Ashippun, WI. He preceded her in death in March, 2017.

Joan enjoyed visiting and having lunch with her many friends, caring for her flower gardens, baking cookies and making candies for those close to her. She loved traveling the country with friends by motor home until they found their favorite spot down south on the ocean to spend their winters.

Joan was an active member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Alter Guild and Meals on Wheels. She received great joy in helping others and caring for her family. She meant the world to her children, grandchildren and daughter-in-law. She always looked for ways to show her love for them.

Joan is survived by her sons, Jeff (Liz) and Terry; her grandchildren, Nicole (Allen) Ballweg and David; sister Anita (Wilber) Roemer; and her brothers-in-law, Jim (Sharon) and Steve (JoAnne). She was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth (John) Hallowell and brother Bob (Harriet) Campbell.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1833 Regent Street, Madison on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
