JoAnn C. Orfan

Sun Prairie - Jo Ann C. ""Jo"" Orfan, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7th, 2009. Jo Ann was born in York, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph and Sente (Aden) Schroeder. She graduated from Ulysses High School in Ulysses, Nebraska and from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. She lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa; and Madison, Wisconsin before settling in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1968.

Jo Ann was very active in the City of Sun Prairie. She spent more that 30 years in city government serving on City Council, numerous boards and commissions, and was extremely proud and honored to have served as Mayor for 13 years. Her never ending commitment to the community and knack for getting things done is demonstrated in the phrase she coined, ""Sun Prairie, The Can Do City!""

Jo Ann was at the center of a loving family who will miss her strength, grace, compassion and love. She is survived by her three children Cheryl (Paul) Lang of Keller, Texas; Kevin (Chris) Orfan of London, England; and Kent (Wendy) Orfan of Sun Prairie, and six grandchildren, Melissa, Joseph, Brooke, Kelsey, Andrew, and Chloe and her beloved cousins Mike and Diane Schroeder.

A Celebration of Jo's life will be held on Sunday December 20th from 1 - 4 pm at the Cannery Grill in Sun Prairie. Friends, associates and fellow citizens are invited to stop by and visit. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at HospiceCare for the wonderful care Jo received.
