Joel moved to Madison in 1963 and was a local business owner for over 40 years, much of that time on State Street. During his years in Madison he served on several city and professional committees and in the early years also served in the Coast Guard Reserve. After Joel sold his business he worked at a private aviation company for 5 years. He was an active member of Angel Flight of America, flying over 70 missions for health care purposes. He served on the Board of Directors of Friends of MSCR and was a devoted participant in the MSCR Pontoon Boat Program in the capacity of boat captain and trainer. He was a long time member of Temple Beth El.
Joel's many hobbies included model railroading and amateur radio. Joel took great pleasure in his yearly and often twice yearly Canadian fishing trips with both family and friends. He had an extra special time fishing with his grandsons. Joel was extremely passionate about flying and proud that as a private pilot he achieved a multi engine instrument rating.
Survivors include his cherished wife Merilyn, beloved children: Jeff (Jen Lynch) New Brighton, MN.; Karen (Jon) Anderson, Mechanicsville, VA.; grandsons Daniel and David Anderson; sister Joyce (Paul) Hackbert , Molina, CO., nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lonnie (Penny) Breslow of Savannah, GA. and Bob(Jean) Breslow, Dodgeville, WI. and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
