John V. ""Jack"" Ammerman

Madison -- John Vernon ""Jack"" Ammerman, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his home in Sun Prairie. He was born on September 30, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Roscoe and Anastasia (Garbalski) Ammerman. John served in the Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Darlene Bennett in June 22, 1946. John worked for the City of Madison Parks Department for 37 years. He enjoyed playing the Harmonica, watching the Brewers and Packers and having his 8:00 p.m. ice cream every evening.

John is survived by his children, Susan Ammerman, Mary (Dan) Thompson, Byron (Laurie) Ammerman and Jonna Duane; grandchildren, Nicole (Matt Huxley) Ammerman, Brian (Jennifer) Ammerman, Melissa (Jeff) Buenger, Nicholas and Vanessa Thompson, Benjamin, Megan and Quentin Duane; great grandchildren, Jaden, Jason and Grace; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene, sisters, Mary Jean Ammerman and Judy Saviano and brothers, Sandy and Jay Ammerman.

Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave. Madison, on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

John's family would like to thank all the staff at Kindred Hearts in Sun Prairie and his friends there for being a part of his life these past few years.
