John Berg

Madison - John Michael Berg, age 63 passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 17, 2012. He was born on January 7, 1949, the son of Emil and Lillian (Engh) Berg and grew up in Viroqua, WI. John graduated from Madison East High School in 1967 and then served in the United States Army. He worked for Oscar Mayer for 17 years and then drove for various trucking companies, along with holding a position with the United States Post Office. In his younger years, John volunteered many hours to coaching the boys basketball team at Eastside Lutheran. He was an avid Badger and Packer fan and also enjoyed bowling and playing softball. John is survived by his thirteen children; Tammy (Jeff) Stone of Janesville, Tracy (Steve) Schwantes of Madison, Tammy (Barry) Haasl of Solon, IA, Tanya Berg of Stoughton, Tracy Berg Dunwald of Oregon, Terry (Jim) Buske of Milwaukee, Tina (Steve) Kraft of Arlington, Tricia Berg of Madison, Tasha Berg of Madison, John M. Berg II of Virginia beach, VA, Ashley Berg, Amber (Tyler) Townsend, and Paul Berg all of Madison, their mother; Susan Berg of Madison, 28 grandchildren; Amanda, Alex, Brett, Liliana, Casey, Calista, Christopher, Allaynah, Alijah, Peyton, Zoe, Owen, Micah, Kayden, Makenna, Addison, Jack, Shaylen, Anna, Maddyn, Judah, Beckham, Devyn,Jesse, Jennifer, Jordan, Nicholas and Dylan, a brother; Tony Berg of Madison and a sister Mary (Ken) Mielke of Madison. He is also survived by many other loving family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2310 Independence Lane, Madison on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00 am with Pastor Mike Novotny officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 9:00 am until the time of service. Graveside services will be held Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Davis and his staff for all the wonderful care given to John and to Pastor Schmiege for devoting his time for all the visits to John's home.
