John Christopherson

Stoughton - John A. Christopherson, age 78 passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice on Thursday October 5, 2017 after having a stroke. John was born on July 24, 1939. He was born and raised in Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1957. John proudly served in the United States Army and was a Staff Sergeant (E7) and then went on and served with the National Guard. John belonged to the American Legion Post 59 for 38 years and during his time he was Commander and cooked Legion dinners. He was also voted Stoughton's Volunteer of the Year.

John has been a diehard Chicago Cubs fan for years and loved watching them win the 2016 World Series. He also loved watching NASCAR and going to the races, hanging at the Legion with friends, watching his grandkids play sports and his oldest granddaughter graduate from college.

John met his wife Kathleen at Kohl's Grocery Store and went on to marry Kathleen on May 1, 1971. John and Kathleen were married for 41 years until Kathleen's passing in 2012. John is survived by his three beautiful children, Leslie (Mike) Ellingson, Eric Christopherson, Jill (Josh) Swangstu; three wonderful grandchildren Nicole, Becca and Ryan Ellingson; sister Lois (Ed) Maki; two dogs Otis and Jack; along with nieces, nephews and many dear friends. John is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, brother Lyle and parents.

Memorial Services with military honors will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect Ave., Stoughton on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Annie Lyon. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Lutheran South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in John's name to Agrace Hospice 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy, Fitchburg, WI 53711 or to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 133 Lakeside St., Madison, WI 53703.
