John ""Jack"" Hugh Dabel

May 19, 1921 — July 20, 2011

John ""Jack"" Hugh Dabel, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 as a complication of pneumonia. Jack was born in Mukwonago, WI on May 19, 1921 to John and Ethel Dabel. He grew up in Antigo before attending the University of Wisconsin - Madison. After graduation, Jack married Helen Fornefelt on June 2, 1945. On June 2, 2011, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Jack was a born salesman, and spent the majority of his career in the building industry, working in Chicago, Milwaukee and Janesville before settling in the Madison area. Jack and Helen lived many years on Lake Waubesa in McFarland where they enjoyed watching the sunset over the Capitol and the migration of water fowl in the spring and fall. Jack was very active in his community and some of the organizations benefiting from his efforts included the Wisconsin Alumni Club, Boy Scouts of America, Operation Head Start and Hello Friend. He was an active member of the West Side Rotarian Club since 1967 and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award in 1998. Surviving Jack is his wife, Helen; and three sons, Dr. John (Jean) Dabel and Fred (Virginia) Dabel of Madison, and Jeff (Deb) Dabel of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren, Russell, Lori, Tanner, Melissa, Cassandra, Ashley, Ryan and Nick; and a great-granddaughter, Alina. Jack is also survived by a sister, Charlotte Lamont of Birmingham, AL. The family suggests a donation be made to a charity of choice. The family thanks the staff at HospiceCare, Inc for their outstanding care of Jack. A private celebration of Jack's life will be held at a later date.
