Madison - John DiCristina, age 88, passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2021, at Agrace Hospice Care, with family members by his side, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Madison on Sept. 7, 1932, the son of John and Catherine (née Spatola) DiCristina. John was the proud son of immigrant parents who came from Sicily prior to WWI. He grew up in the Greenbush area of Madison, a close-knit community of families, many of them Italian. He had many stories to tell anyone who would listen about his life in “the Bush.”
John graduated from Edgewood High School, attended one year at the University of Wisconsin, served two years in the U.S. Navy, and then spent two years at Madison Business College. He eventually found a job he loved with the U.S. Postal Service – serving as a letter carrier for 34 years. In 1973, he married Jane Kalton. They continued living in Madison, where they raised their two children, Anthony “Tony,” born in 1974, and Katherine “Katie,” born in 1975.
John is survived by wife, Jane; son, Anthony (Brenda) DiCristina; daughter, Katherine DiCristina; grandchildren, Addison and Joseph; brother, Frank (Nancy) DiCristina; and many nieces, nephews, and caring friends. Special thanks to nieces Janet Burrill and Frances Kamp for their faithful love and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose (Carl) Maglio and Jean DiCristina; and brother, Joseph DiCristina.
A private Mass of Christian Burial and committal service will be held by the family at a later date, at Our Lady Queen of Peace and Resurrection Cemetery, respectively.
