John Driscoll

John K. Driscoll, of Madison, died peacefully at home on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 6, 1935, to Leo and Marcella (McKavanaugh) Driscoll. He graduated from Brookfield High School, Brookfield, OH in 1953. After a year at Youngstown College, John entered the United States Marine Corps in January, 1955. He served with 2nd Air and Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in North Africa, the Middle East, southern Europe and northern Norway, which included twenty-six months at sea. His final year of service was with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa. He was released from active duty in December, 1958 and received his honorable discharge in January, 1963.
John is survived by his wife Carole (Torma), whom he married in Sharon, PA on February 6, 1960. He is further survived by his children, Kathleen (James) Raab, Laura Lodholz, Daniel Driscoll, James (Reggie) Driscoll (Joe Parsons), and Sharon (Michael) Heuer, and by his eleven grandchildren: John III and Collin Driscoll, Christopher, Maren, Brian and Tricia Raab, Maggie Richardson, Anna Lodholz, Daniel Driscoll, Jr., and Alexander and Ashley Heuer.
John's professional career began in the early aerospace efforts, the first man-in-space, the sub-orbital flights and missile and satellite programs with a research and development firm in Alexandria, VA and Tampa, FL. The family moved to Cleveland, OH, when John joined an international marketing and distribution corporation, eventually becoming corporate vice president for procurement and distribution. In 1977 the family relocated to Madison when John joined the State of Wisconsin as Director of State Purchasing and then Chief of Construction. He retired in August, 1998, and has devoted himself to family, pursuit of the elusive brook and rainbow trout, and his writings on American history. John was involved in his fourth book at the time of his passing.
He had also served many years as Scoutmaster, both with Troop 403 in Cleveland Heights, OH, and with Troop 102 in Madison.
He was preceded in death by an older brother, Leo, Jr., a younger brother, James, his son John Jr. (Jack), and his son-in-law Jim Lodholz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Friday, June 3, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
