Middleton—John D. Fassbender, age 90, of Middleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on March 16, 2025. He was born on July 2, 1934, in Steuben, WI, to James and Neva (Rockwell) Fassbender.
John attended Mount Hope High School, where he met the love of his life, Sharon (Clark) Fassbender. Following high school, John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin to attend college. John and Sharon were married on August 23, 1958, in Fennimore, WI, and enjoyed almost 67 years together.
John and Sharon settled in the countryside, where they raised two children, Thomas and Lori. For many years, John worked as the President of Red Arrow Welding Supply, contributing to the success of the company and building lasting relationships with colleagues. After retiring, John and Sharon enjoyed many years of travel, spending winters in Arizona and Florida. During these years, John embraced his favorite pastimes, which included fishing, golfing, playing cards, dancing, and perfecting his recipe for the ideal old-fashioned. John was a kind, loving family man who enjoyed a simple life.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; son, Thomas (Julie) of Winona; daughter, Lori (Chip) of Madison; and grandchildren Sequoia, Parker, Sadie, Hudson, and Miles. He is also survived by beloved members of both the Fassbender and Clark families. He was fondly known as “Uncle Johnny” by his nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Neva Fassbender, and his brothers: Charles, Richard, Jay, and Delbert Fassbender; and sisters Janet Quale and Janice Fassbender.
A private service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison. In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to a charity of your choosing.
