John R. Fauerbach

Lodi/Sauk Prairie - John R Fauerbach age 85 passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at John D Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia.

He was born in Madison on October 7, 1924 to Karl and Mildred (Pribnow) Fauerbach. John graduated from Wisconsin High School in 1942. He served in the US Army from March 1943 until December 1945. He drove ambulance transporting the wounded from the battlefield to evacuation hospitals in Corsica, France and Central Europe, earning him a Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, 4 overseas service bars and a Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge he attended Madison Business College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. John and Catherine Poetsch married on September 18, 1948 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Madison. He worked for Wingra Stone Company for 30 years, retiring in 1961.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cathy; two children Scott (Diane) Fauerbach, and Julie (Mike) Ross; three grandchildren Ryan Fauerbach, Rachael (Joe) Steinkopf, and Michael John Fauerbach; three greatgrandchildren, Devan, Alysa and Kayden Steinkopf; many nieces and nephews; countless friends and hunting/fishing buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Louis (Donny), and Karl; sister Virginia. John enjoyed talking to his friends at Lucy's cafe in Lodi over breakfast, going hunting/fishing with his many friends and family, and going to the Silver Bullet in Georgia for the winter months. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3160 Speedway Road, Madison, 53705. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM. Pastor Jeff Virchow will be officiating. Burial with full military Honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
