John L. Fox

Madison -- John L. Fox, age 68, died peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at HospiceCare Inc. surrounded by family and friends, after a valiant 2 year battle with cancer. He was born on November 20, 1940 to Melvin and Evelyn (Burch) Fox. John has been a lifelong resident of Madison. He graduated from West High School, and received a bachelor's degree in physical education from the UW-Madison. John retired in 2005 after being a self-employed contractor. He was a member of The W Club, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, downhill skiing, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Kathy Walch; daughters, Jacquie (Don) Duppler of Madison, and Jeri (John) Davis of Cottage Grove; his step-children, Timothy (Tina) Walch of Cape Coral, Florida, and Shannon (Wayne) Holder of Cross Plains; his grandchildren, Nicole and Michelle Duppler, and Haley, Maggie and Connor Davis; his step-grandchildren, Michael and Christina Walch, and Sonya, Andre and Devon Holder. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to John's lifelong friends for their continued support throughout his illness and during his final days; and also to Dr Natalie Callander and the staff at UW Hospital, and the compassionate staff at HospiceCare Inc. A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, October 13 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 14 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison, with a luncheon to follow. Memorials in John's name can be made to the UW Foundation-Derzon Endowment Fund for Patient Assistance, US Bank Lockbox 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278. This fund is used to help needy UWHC patients with expenses such as transportation, medications, lodging, meals or other needs that may arise.
