John Helt, age 87 passed away June 24, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on November 11, 1924 in the town of Springfield on the family farm to William and Rose (Ripp) Helt. John married Viola Michels on May 2, 1953 at St. Martin's Catholic Church.
John was active in the agricultural field. He was a Director for the Middleton Farmers Co-op, Wisconsin Dairies, Advocate for Dairy Industry - Land O Lakes, Volunteer for the World Dairy Expo for many years along with being a Director for the Bank of Waunakee.
John loved to watch the Brewers, Packers and Badgers. You could always see him sitting in his chair by the window to watch the wildlife and the comings and goings of things happening on the family farm. He would always know when the boys were coming, because they would lay on their semi horns to say hi.
Survivors include his wife Viola of 59 years, John (Sharon, children Christine (Don), Michael (fianc�e Melissa), Joe), Dave (Debra, children Judy (Jon), great granddaughter Elizabeth, David (Lindsey), great grandson Evan, Jeff), Jim (Linda, children Eric and Dusty), Mary Falkenstein (Dennie and children Heather, Ben (Monica)), Karen, Al (Laurie, children Miranda and Darrin), Lois Henn (Paul, children Jessica and Stephanie).
He is further survived by his brothers, Godfrey, Sylvester, Gilbert, Donald (Diana), William (Virginia), Tom (Marlene), Tony (Joan), a sister Dorothy (Gene) Voegeli and sister-in-law Doris Helt.
John was preceded in death by his parents William and Rose, his first wife Lucille Lubke, a son Joseph, brothers Frederick Helt, Joseph Helt, and sister and brother-in-law Claude and Rose Schuster, and brother-in-law John Endres, sister in laws, Rosella Helt and Carol Helt.
John was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather.
The family wishes to give special thanks to St. Jude Hospice for all of their excellent care and compassion. Fr. Brian Dulli for his many visits and Fr. Francis Schmidt for his participation in the funeral services.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St Martin's Catholic Church 5959 St Martin Circle, Cross Plains, Rev Francis Schmidt will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Thursday June 28, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at St Peter's Cemetery in Ashton
