John Horachek

April 22, 1969 — June 17, 2020

John Horachek, 51, passed away on June 17 in Madison, Wisconsin. John grew up in Goodrich, MN, later moving to Stevens Point, WI where he met his husband, David Stortz, in 1998. They shared a home in Alma Center, WI. Together they moved to Madison in 2000 where they lived until this March, then moving to a new home in Sun Prairie, WI. There, John and David enjoyed spending time with their three dogs and gardening.

What John enjoyed most, beside spending time with Dave, was sitting outside, drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette, socializing with his many friends and family, talking about Christmas, politics, and their new home. John was an avid Christmas collector and liked anything that reminded him of the Christmas season. They traveled as well as attended several Christmas conventions, collecting ornaments from each place they visited along the way.

John was a deeply caring, passionate, and generous individual who loved to compliment his friends, tease them and make them happy. He kept in constant contact with those he met along life’s journey.

John is preceded in death by his parents, George and Donna (Lee) Horachek; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy (Heintz) and Joseph Stortz; and brothers, Ronald, Gregory, and Vincent Horachek. He is survived by his husband, David Stortz; brother, Douglas (Heidi) Horachek; sisters Katherine Siverling, Valarie (Jesse) Newton, and Beverley (Melanie Kline) Horachek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Linda) Stortz, Tom (Sally) Stortz, and Joy (Michael) Nieman. John is further survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
