John Mahaney

November 30, 1940 — May 15, 2021

MADISON-John D. Mahaney, age 80, passed away on May 15, 2021 at Agrace HospiceCare, following a courageous battle with cancer, with his wife, Kitty, by his side. John was born November 30, 1940 in Fairchild, Wisconsin to John and Norma (Yule) Mahaney.

As a young boy, John spent his summers on his grandparent’s farm in Augusta, WI. He forever cherished his Grandma Yule’s cooking, the mischief he and his brother Les created, and his Uncle Verlyn, his lifelong hero.

Following graduation from Mazomanie High school in 1958, John joined his brother in becoming a barber. He graduated from Barber School in Eau Claire in 1961. He then served his apprenticeship in East Troy and Madison, ultimately owning and operating his own barbershops. His original shop was located on University Avenue. He then relocated to Odana Road, where he retired in 2008. John especially enjoyed his retirement years with his wife, Kitty Rinden, who he married on June 23, 1995 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Family was very important to him, as well as his dear friends and customers at the barbershop. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.

John is survived by his wife Kitty; daughters Michelle (Peter) Dover, Maria (Brian) Sergenian, and Elizabeth Shepardson; his stepdaughter Kelly Pearce; his nine grandchildren Noah Shepardson, Adam Shepardson, Maximum Dover, William Sergenian, Henry Sergenian, Nick Graf, Haley Graf, Harrison Pearce, and Claire Pearce; brother-in-law Jim Rinden; and many relatives, cousins, and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie Mahaney, sister-in-law Sue Rinden, and grandson Edward Dover.

Private services will be held.
