John Malas

Madison - John J. Malas, age 87, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at his home. He was born on May 8, 1927 to Nicholas and Mary (Hron) Malas in Madison. John graduated from Central High School. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, serving on the Aircraft Carrier USS Valley Forge. He loved flying trainer planes and pulling targets for gunner's practice. On September 13, 1947, John was united in marriage to Anna T. Hinze.

John was a driver with Neuendorf Trucking. John was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a long-time Madison archer, enjoyed photography, auto racing, watching old movies, swing and big band music. John and Anna enjoyed travelling, especially European travel. They attended Munich's Octoberfest for over 20 years together. John was a long-time property owner in downtown Madison, where he had several rental properties.

John is survived by his four children, Diane Malas of Denton, Texas, Lynn Lunde of Madison, Ann Michaele (Don) Steffen of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and Nicholas (Marsha) Malas of Madison; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Jeff) Morton, Amanda Sowle, Michael Lunde and Nicolette Lunde; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Jason Morton, Amelia Ramos, and Jaxson Burns. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his parents; sister, Marion Reader; and a brother, James Malas.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
