John K. McAnelly, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 11, 2010 in Madison.  He was born the son of Eugene E. and Margaret (Kitchell) McAnelly at his grandparents farm in Lincoln, Indiana on June 22, 1931.  John was united in marriage to Joyce Graber on December 27, 1953 in Des Moines Iowa.                Â
                 John was a Senior Scientist at the Food Research Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Prior to accepting this appointment, he was the President for four years of McAnelly Associates, Inc., a food safety and quality management consulting firm.  During his more than 33 years of food industry experience, he has been Group Director, Corporate QA for Nabisco Brands, Inc., Director, Corporate QA, Nabisco, Inc.; Vice President, Technical R&D Rival Pet Foods; and Chief Biochemist, Swift & Co.  He is a graduate of Iowa State University and holds advanced degrees from North Carolina University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  His PhD in Bacteriology was granted in 1960. John was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.   He was a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists, ASQC, the American Society for Microbiology, and the American Chemical Society.  John was also Chairman of the IFT QA Division for 1993-94.               Â
                    John and his wife Joyce have lived in Madison for the past 17 years.  He was an avid Wisconsin Badger Fan, and had attended the Wisconsin Badger Football Homecoming Game, and Badger Hockey this past weekend.  John was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.                   Â
                      John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce; his children, Anne (David) Henson, of NJ, Steve (Janet) McAnelly of NJ; grandchildren, Nicholas Henson and Lauren Henson of NJ; and a sister Joan (Herb) Morgan of IN.                  Â
                   A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at ASBURY  UNITED  METHODIST  CHURCH,  6101 University Ave, Madison, WI,  with visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the church.  Burial will take place at Hope Well Cemetery, in Deer Creek IN.   Â
