Madison - John B. McCarthy Jr., age 85, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Sebring Assisted Living. He was born on August 28, 1926 to John and Mary (Burke) McCarthy Sr. in Springfield, Illinois. John received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and his J.D. Degree from Marquette Law School in 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and also served two tours of duty during the Korean War. John began his career in private practice in Wisconsin, and also served as staff counsel and grievance administrator for the State Bar of Wisconsin, from 1958-1977. He served the Wisconsin Supreme Court as the Resolution Counsel of the Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility, until his retirement in 1996, after serving as the Board's first Administrator, from 1977-1983. John was a member and past president of the National Organization of Bar Counsel from 1968-1969. He also served on the Catholic Social Service Board. John also retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Generals Corps-Reserve, and was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. John is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Margaret (Dean) Zezeus (their children, Zach, Sam, Nick, Thomas, Grace and Olivia); a son, John J.; and a daughter, Clare (John) Kindt (their children, Noah, Charlie and Oliver). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison with Fr. Tony Schumacher officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012.
