John W. Morrison

Madison- John W. Morrison, age 77, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends after a valiant battle with cancer. John was born on November 5, 1931 in Fond du Lac. As a Korean War vet, John was awarded the Purple Heart. After his service in the war, John graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He married Ruth Johnson on September 24, 1955. For over 50 years, John worked as a manager at the University Bookstore on State Street. While raising four children, John participated in Boy Scouts with his oldest son John Jr. serving as a Scout Master, and followed his son David through the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp. John took pride in his impeccable self-created landscaped yard and exuberant holiday light displays. Always physically fit, John enjoyed body building, cycling and other exercises. With his wife Ruth, they spent several years raising Cocker Spaniel pups and traveling to Las Vegas and the Caribbean. John is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Madison; his four children, John (Barb), Diane (William), both of Madison, David (Kathy), of Wyocena, and Lisa (David), of La Crosse; and eight grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Foundation, Inc.
