John G. Richardson

McFarland – John G. Richardson, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023, at his home in McFarland.  He was born April 19, 1945, in Richland Center to the late Alvin and Margaret Richardson.  John attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and graduated in 1963 from River Valley High School.  He is a 1968 graduate of UW Platteville with a degree in Business.  He served his country in the US Army from 1969-1971.  John married Rosalie Skalet on July 21, 1973, in Spring Green and they recently celebrated 50 years together.  He worked for American Family Insurance as an Underwriter and in Auto Product Design for 33 years, retiring in 2005.  John was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and was a 50-year season ticket holder with the UW Badger Football program.  He loved to play slow pitch softball in Oregon, bowled in leagues in Madison, Oregon and McFarland, coached basketball and softball for his girls’ teams, attended sports, music and school events for his two daughters and also his three granddaughters.  Traveling with his wife, his siblings and spouses was always an adventure to destinations like a European River Cruise, Caribbean Cruises, Norway, Alaska and Hawaii.  He volunteered at the Fitchburg Senior Center and was an American Red Cross blood donor for numerous years.

John is survived by his wife Rosalie; daughters:  Jamie Richardson and Ashley (Erik) Schuchardt; grandchildren Ella, Avery and Kendyl Schuchardt; brothers Bill (Jane) Richardson and Steve (Bonnie) Richardson and sister Ann (Dave) Beverley; nieces Julia (Joe) Dadez and Rachel (Wes) Bettner; grandniece Margo Bettner and grandnephew Austin Bettner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 9, 2023, at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 129 Daley St., Spring Green.  Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Hwy 51, McFarland; and also from 9:00 AM until the funeral at the church in Spring Green on Monday.  Burial will follow the funeral at Spring Green Cemetery.
