MADISON- John H. Robbins, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Agrace HospiceCare on Monday January 19, 2015. He was born on January 7, 1930 in Madison, to the late Dr. J. Holden (Marion Pankratz) Robbins. John is a 1948 graduate of Madison West High School, and in 1950 joined and proudly served his Country in the Navy and was stationed in Guam. After his time in the Navy, he married Margaret (Peggy) Kalscheur on September 15, 1951 in St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Middleton. John began his career at Findorff Construction as an apprentice in 1952, retiring in 1995 as a superintendent. He loved his job and all the friends he made at Findorff. John traveled extensively with his wife Peggy over the years, going to many USGA golf tournaments, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a true Wisconsin sports fan, following the Green Bay Packers and Badger basketball and football teams. John was known as a generous guy who was always willing and able to help out friends and neighbors with their home construction projects.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years Peggy; son John Robbins; daughters Nancy Robbins Baxter and Margie Robbins; grandson Alex John Baxter; sister Mary (Bill) Cichowski; and he is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Ellen, brother Peter Robbins, and his father and mother in law Frank and Dorothy Kalscheur.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday January 23, 2015 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road with Msgr. Michael Burke presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
