John Forst Rockenbach, born December 7, 1948, in Richland, WA, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI, on October 7, 2024, at 5:40 PM. He was surrounded by his loving family: his wife Barb, his children Daniel (wife Lisa) and Taylor (husband Chris). As Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken" played in the background, they all held his hands and told him they loved him as he took his last breath.

John was a beloved husband, father, "Gramps", son, and brother. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Barb (Brooks) Rockenbach; his son Daniel (Lisa) Rockenbach; his daughter Taylor (Chris) Barkinge; his twin brother Philip; his sister-in-law Pam Rockenbach; his brother-in-law Richard Green; his sister-in-law Susan Rockenbach; and his grandchildren Harper James Rockenbach, Brooks August Rockenbach, and Campbell George Barkinge.

John grew up in Crystal Lake, IL, and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1967. He then attended the University of Illinois, where he received a degree in Accounting and Finance. He earned his CPA and was employed by Wisconsin DOT with amazing co-workers.

John and Barb raised their two wonderful children in Madison, WI, where they built a beautiful life together. Their family vacations, which John proudly planned, took them to National Parks and historical sites, creating countless special memories that will be cherished forever.

John loved music, especially Cat Stevens, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at the Bolton Lake house in Lac Du Flambeau and White Sands condo in Long Boat Key, FL. He took great pride in his landscaping and woodworking, making special gifts for his loved ones. He was a collector of many things, most recently coins and Beatles memorabilia.

John had a big heart and cared deeply for others. He generously supported countless national and local charities and volunteered his time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Yvonne (Roop) Rockenbach; his brother, Peter George Rockenbach; and his sister, Leslie Ann (Rockenbach) Green.

A celebration of John's life will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm  Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI  53704, with a service at 2:00 pm.
