Madison - John Arnold Selvaag, age 86, passed away on April 29, 2012 at his home in Madison. He was born on August 14, 1925 in Madison, the son of John and Ingeborg (Oliverson) Selvaag. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Hollinshead on June 19, 1947. John graduated from Madison East High School in June of 1943. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS St. George. He returned to Madison and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. John worked as an engineer at Research Products Corp in Madison for almost 40 years. He was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed creating wood pieces for family and friends. He genuinely cared for others and freely gave of his time and talents. John was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Selvaag; a son, Robin Selvaag; a granddaughter, Anika (Ron) Laube; a great grandson, Brok Laube; good friends, Nancy and John Peterson; many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Selvaag, a sister, Asta Davis and a brother, Thor Selvaag.
A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718.
