John Thiesenhusen, ended his journey here on Earth on March 21st, 2025 . He was born on February 23rd, 1939 in Waukesha to Arthur and Myrtle Thiesenhusen. He earned his Bachelor's in Engineering from UW-Madison, and his Master's in Social Work from Florida State University. John served in the Air National Guard.
He spent his career as a Social Worker locally and for the State of Wisconsin. He was involved in the weatherization program, adoption unit, the Bureau of Management Operations, and a variety of other programs throughout his career.
John married Pat Conlin on August 1st, 1964. They had three wonderful children, Ed, Paul, and Cindy.
John enjoyed spending his free time running, golfing, and playing Sheepshead with workmates of 30 years and at Lake Arrowhead. During his running days he ran several marathons and the Syttende Mai. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan that loved to listen to the radio broadcasts for the Brewers, Packers, and Wisconsin football.
He and Pat loved experiencing new cuisine with the Gourmet Club along with Bill & Janell, Randy & Sandy, and Jan & Jon. When they lived in Lake Arrowhead their Nine and Wine social group gathered regularly to tell stories and enjoy each other's company.
John spent a number of years as a member of the Sun Prairie School Board, serving as President from 1991-1993. He was an active member of the Sun Prairie Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Award for dedicated humanitarian services.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat. Children Ed (Tami), Paul (Cindy Strom), Cindy (Sadie), and their grandchildren Grace and Ben (Sophia). His brothers Arthur (Bonnie) and Charles, and many relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill.
Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Oakwood Village Tree of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, WI 53718 with a memorial service to begin at 11:30am, followed by a luncheon.
The family wishes to thank the Oakwood Hospice team along with care workers Michelle P. and Aminata for their care and compassion for John during this stay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to a pet rescue of your choice, Sunshine Place food pantry in Sun Prairie, or Wisconsin Public Radio.
