John Tompkins

Sun Prairie - John "Roger" Tompkin, age 74 passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at his home. He was born on August 25, 1941 in Callaway, Nebraska, the son of John and Eleanor (Matz) Tompkin.

Roger graduated from Fremont High School in Fremont, Nebraska in 1959. In 1962, Roger was united in marriage to Diann Kathleen Knudsen at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont, Nebraska. Together they raised two beautiful children; Mark and Michelle. For over 41 years, Roger worked as a salesman until his retirement in 2003. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking care of his yard, golfing and traveling. Roger was an active member of the Sun Prairie Lions Club. He donated his time by reading to the kindergarteners at Westside School and assisting the Lions with transporting eye donations. Roger also enjoyed being on Facebook, playing candy crush and monitoring his stocks daily on his computer. Most importantly he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Roger will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diann Tompkin, two children; Mark (Lisa) Tompkin and Michelle (Peter) Hanson, a granddaughter; Taylor Tompkin, two grandsons; Gavin Tompkin and Jacob Hanson, a sister; Linda (Richard) Vonderlage, sister-in-law; Rhonda Knudsen, lifelong family friends; Ed and Norma Swanson. Roger is also survived by nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law; Roger Knudsen and his in-laws; Dennis and Ada Knudsen.

Funeral services will be held at SUN PRAIRIE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 702 North Street, Sun Prairie on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jenny Arneson officiating. A visitation will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of services.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Sun Prairie Police Department and Paramedics for responding so quickly, your professionalism, and most of all being so kind to our family.
