John Verwiel

McFarland- John R. Verwiel, age 69, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on February 11, 1947, the son of John C. and Betty Lou (Dodds) Verwiel. John graduated from Madison East High School in 1965. In December of 1969 he married Judy Winner in Madison. John graduated from UW- Madison with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He worked at Emerson Electric in St. Louis, MO for 10 years and retired with In-Sink-Erator in Racine with over 30 years of service to Emerson Electric. Upon retirement John completed tax returns as a volunteer with the IRS primarily helping low income families. He enjoyed golfing, family vacations, was a proud UW Alumni, and an avid Badger fan. For the last 20 years John has battled Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; four children: Kristine (Brian) Wollermann, Lauri (Jason) Carter, Bob Verwiel, and Jared (Brandy) Verwiel; seven grandchildren: Isabel, Xavier, Emma, Maddy, Henry, Ethan, and Kennedy; and mother-in-law, Arliene Winner. John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beth Baker; and father-in-law, Robert "Bob" Winner. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at City Church, 4909 E. Buckeye Road, Madison. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon reception immediately following. The family will have a time of greeting from 10:00 AM until the service begins. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Assoc. (APDA - Wisconsin), or to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. The family wishes to send a special thanks to the staff of Agrace HospiceCare, especially the inpatient care facility, and McFarland Villa for their dedicated care of John.
