John Weston

December 6, 1925 — March 5, 2012

Madison-John Cassoday Weston passed away on March 5, 2012 at Agrace Hospice Care. He was born on December 6, 1925 son of Dr. and Mrs. F.L. Weston. He was raised in Madison, WI, his home his entire life.

John served his country in the US Army, including overseas duties in the Philippines at the end of WWII. He was proud to be an American and proud of his Norwegian heritage. Upon his return from duty, he attended the U of W and consequently began successful careers in manufacturing at Gisholt Machine Tool Company and Webcrafters Inc.

He and his wife Joyce enjoyed 61 years of marriage. These years were filled with community involvement and family/friend activities - muskie fishing, maple syruping, baking Julekage, painting furniture and cheering for the Badgers - topping the list. Lasting friendships were paramount in John's life.

John was a Village trustee and volunteer fireman and an active participant in Downtown Rotary, Oslo Sister City Committee, United Way of Dane County, Olbrich Botanical Society, the John A. Johnson Foundation, Christ Presbyterian Church, and Bascom Hill Society.

John is survived by his family: wife Joyce, sons John, Jim (Dana), daughters Ruth, Mary Streitz (Rick), grandchildren Weston and Chapin Streitz, Emily and John Weston, sisters Jane Johnson (Bill), Nan Thompson, Sue van Steenderen, brother Dr. Carl B Weston (Sue), John Frautschi, and by Joyce's family, Ann Marineau (Russ), Enid O'Leary and many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and Mary Frautschi, Robert Thompson, Frits van Steenderen, Nancy and Peter Johnson, Carl J Weston, Emma Orr, Lee and Jewell O'Leary and Lee O'Leary.

A memorial service will be held at Olbrich Gardens on Friday, March 23 at 2:30 pm. Friends may greet the family at 1:00 pm until the time of service.

Memorials to Agrace Hospice Care, Christ Presbyterian Church or Olbrich Botanical Society would please John.
