Jon Eliot Smith, a man of great character, humor, and boundless love, has gained his wings. He was a proud American who served his country with honor as a Marine, demonstrating a commitment to freedom that made him a true patriot. His dedication to his family was a cornerstone of his life, reminding us all how much family means.
Jon was born to Jessie and Willie B. Smith Sr., both of whom have preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his siblings: Jessie “Joat,” Willie “Sonny” and his wife Shirley “Jean,” Donald, Bertha and her husband Joseph, Eloise and her husband Sam. His sister Sadie “Micki” is the only surviving sibling, her husband Charly having passed away.
Jon was a devoted father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his children Sharon, William, and Joe. He is survived by his loving children: Thelma “Jeanette,” Sean “Chris,” Cheryl “Bunchie,” Johnnie “Peaches,” John “Snip,” and Marquis.
He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory and love forward.
Additionally, Jon is remembered fondly by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished his presence and will continue to celebrate his life.
