Jorge "Chonty" Prieto passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 1st. Born August 11, 1951 to Jorge Prieto and Phyllis Raby in Santiago, Chile, Jorge was the second oldest of eleven children and the oldest son. Jorge was raised in a house full of love, starting from both of his parents down to his youngest sibling.
From a young age, Jorge loved the outdoors. As a child, Jorge could often be found camping with his friends and brothers. His love for nature and exploration continued throughout his life; whether it was canoeing, driving for hours all over Chile and later the US to see some out-of-the-way place, or simply enjoying a barbeque in the backyard, Jorge loved being outside.
At only 15 years old, Jorge met his one and only lifelong love, Georgina del Pilar Balbontin. Together, they raised three sons: Tomas, Andres and Martin. Jorge was a loving father, and through his teachings and example raised his children to be loving, caring, loyal husbands and fathers themselves. Jorge's career brought him and his family to the United States, where he was proud to be able to provide the life and opportunities to his family he felt that they deserved.
Through his sons' wives, Lilly, Lauren and Anna, Jorge was happy to finally have daughters and loved them as his own. To his grandchildren Nathan, Manuela, Nicolas and Eva, Jorge was simply "Tata" or "Chonty." He was the Tata that was always willing to follow them anywhere to play, to tell a story or joke, to have a tea party, or to paint their nails.
Jorge loved to laugh, and was always game for a good (or bad) joke. He especially loved jokes that would make his siblings, wife, kids, friends, or even grandkids roll their eyes.
Jorge also loved his work in the dairy industry. Professionally, he felt at home visiting some remote farm somewhere. He always treated others with kindness and respect, which is reflected in the life-long friendships he maintained with his current and former colleagues, bosses, and even competitors. His career took him all over the world, allowing him to further explore as he loved to do.
Jorge is survived by his wife, Pilar, his sons Tomas, Andres and Martin, their wives Lilly, Lauren and Anna, and his grandchildren Nathan, Manuela, Nicolas, Eva and his yet-to-be-born Prieto Farina grandchild that he will be watching from above.
