Madison - Joseph P. Di Cristina passed away peacefully November 19, 2011, surrounded by family.
Joseph was born March 17, 1925, to John Di Cristina and Catherine Spatola Di Cristina in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was very active in the Italian community, including a term as president of The Bersagliere Club.
Joe attended St. Joseph Grade School and Edgewood High School, where he played football.
He worked at the Post Office, retiring after 30 years. He also worked at and helped manage the family business, "The Friendly Tavern".
Joe cherished cooking for and spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, watching sports on TV, and regular trips to the casino. He will fondly be remembered as "The cookie man". He was a friend to everyone he met and was loved for his warmth and generosity.
He is survived by his children, Janet (Paul) Burrill and their children Greg, Scott and Cristina; Julie (Ken) Adler and their children Emma and Betsy; and John and his children, Nick, Mary and Angie. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters; Rose Maglio, John (Jane) Di Cristina, Jean Di Cristina, Frank (Nancy) Di Cristina, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Schueller, Dr. Ahrens, and the caring staff at Highland Park Community and Agrace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe's name to Edgewood High School, 2219 Monroe St. Madison, WI 53711
