Marshall - Joseph Vincent Kornell, age 48, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from a pulmonary embolus. He was born February 22, 1966, in Milwaukee, the son of Robert V. and Ruth M. (Stoetzel) Kornell. He married the girl who would laugh at all his jokes, Annette Kraak, on September 23, 1989. They raised three amazing children, Vincent Michael, Madeline (Maggi) Ruth, and Nadine Roma, with lots of love and laughter.
In addition to his family, Joe is survived by his Mother, Ruth Kornell; Mother-in-law, Wilma Kraak; three brothers, Robert (Carol), Michael (Marina Zupan) and John (Diane); four sisters, Peggy (John) Herman, Karen, Mary (Jane Belz), and Christine (Ron) Ladell; sisters-in-law, Carly Henry (Brian Hagen), Joei Shavitz (Larry), Wendy Kornell, and Marlys Kornell. Joe is also survived by many special nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and international students that became family.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Robert V. Kornell, father-in-law, Roelof Kraak, brother-in-law, Michael Henry, and many other dear family members.
Joe graduated from Edgewood High School in 1984. He was employed by Four Lakes Label and Printing for nineteen years; then as Lodge Manager at Dick's Sporting Goods for several years. In 2012 Joe enrolled in Madison College to pursue a career in health care. He earned his life guard certification and had recently begun guarding at the YMCA East.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting and fishing--especially up North at the cabin. Joe was proud to have hunted every opening weekend of deer season for 35 years, enjoying the time with his hunting buddies. Joe was passionate about his involvement with the Lion's Club. He served with the Marshall Lions, as a transporter for the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin, and on the Lions International Youth Camp committee and staff.
A celebration of life will be held at MARSHALL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 318 William St., Marshall, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Afi Dobbins officiating. A meal and sharing of stories will follow the service at the church. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at church on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marshall Lions Club. Joe found a connection with everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
