Joshua Sprain

Joshua Shawn Sprain, age 46, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away at home in the early morning hours on 8/25/22. He was the son of Kenneth Scott Sprain and Melanie Ames Sprain.

He moved to Cary, Illinois with his parents following Ken and Melanie’s marriage in 1981. He attended grade school in Crystal Lake, Illinois. After moving back to the Madison area with his family when he was 14, Josh attended and graduated from Sun Prairie high school in 1996.

He had special needs and was supported during his adult life. Josh will especially be missed by his primary caregiver, Nabila Shahwan. She was a great help to Josh, working with him for over 20 years. The family is extremely grateful for her support to Josh and to the family during this difficult time. Another caregiver that will miss Josh and that Josh truly appreciated is Marcia Meyers.

He had several supported jobs in custodial positions. He also participated in the Special Olympics program. He loved mountain view pictures and spending time with both sets of his grandparents. He always looked forward to visiting his paternal grandparents' house for birthdays and holidays.

His primary passions included maps and traveling. He had to have the newest atlas every year for Christmas. Recent trips (with Abletrek Tours) included a trip to New York City as well as a trip to the Wisconsin Dells over the winter. He took trips to Disneyland and Disney World, and to Arizona for spring training. He took many more trips and had a passport for an international trip.

Josh is survived by a brother, Clinton Scott Sprain; Clinton's wife Ashely Woodroof; their daughters (nieces to Josh) Eva and Aria Sprain; aunt Susan (Sprain) Lundgren and uncle James Lundgren; aunt Jean (Sprain) Barto; uncle Charles Ames; uncle Brian Ames and aunt Arlu Ames; uncle Todd Ames and aunt Jill Ames. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Charles Ames and grandmother Faith (Wright) Ames; by paternal grandfather Kenneth Carl Sprain and grandmother Roberta (Rowe) Sprain; and by uncle Gus Barto.

The family is planning a small private memorial gathering at the parents house which will be announced on social media.
