Joshua "Josh" Strohmenger

July 13, 1990 — January 28, 2023

Sun Prairie (Town of Bristol)

Joshua A. Strohmenger, age 32, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Josh was born on July 13, 1990 in Madison, WI.

Josh embraced the spirit of the outdoors. He was his happiest outside, sitting in a tree stand, waiting for the perfect buck.  Josh was often with close friends fishing, hunting, and sinking the occasional boat. He loved to share his passion for the outdoors with others.  Josh worked with young, new hunters and others who wanted to deepen their knowledge about hunting and fishing. He took many trips out of state to hunt with close friends and dreamed of owning land that he could fill with trail cams and tree stands. His love of the outdoors started young.  He would often visit his grandparent’s trailer up north where he could fish, have bonfires, and explore nature.  His dogs were his pride and joy.  He will be missed by his loyal partners and hunting buddies, his dogs, Bo and Duke.

Josh was currently working at Badgerland Excavating, where his colleagues appreciated his dedication and hard work. Josh always had to be doing something outside.  Whether at his full-time job, or helping friends out, he enjoyed different projects, from cutting trees and landscaping, to snow plowing.  He was ready to help with whatever needed to be done.

Josh was the definition of loyal.  He would do anything for anyone in need, and he would never turn down a round of darts or a beer with a friend. If he wasn’t with his friends, you’d find Josh out for a long ride in his pick-up truck listening to country music (or the occasional Michael Jackson jam!). He will be missed by countless friends that he called family. Our family is grateful to everyone who’s been there for Josh and who’s reached out during this difficult time.

Josh is survived by his mother Cindy Stanek; sisters Sarah Strohmenger (Altug Poyraz) and Roxi Stanek (Jeff Schultz); grandparents Del and Gloria Thiede; Aunt Mary Gilmore and cousin, Kiandra Gilmore; and extended family.  Josh is further survived by his father Mark Strohmenger and family, including cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Josh was preceded in death by his step-dad Mike Stanek; uncle Chris Gilmore; and grandparents, great-grandparents, and other extended family.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4-7:00 PM on Monday, February 6, 2023 with a time of reflection at 7:00 PM.   Please wear your camo, Carhartt, or whatever you’re comfortable in to the visitation.

We extend deep thanks to the emergency response teams who assisted Josh and our family that day. Donations made in lieu of flowers will be used to honor Josh’s hunting legacy.
