Joyce Parminter, age 83, died on Good Friday April 22, 2011 at Middleton Village Nursing Home. She was born on March 11, 1928 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Clinton J Chapman and Edna (Sharratt) Chapman.
Joyce attended Randall School and West High School with her identical twin sister Joan. The twins grew up in the old University Avenue area and were known for their childhood mischief. Their father built an apartment building on Kendall Avenue that is still known as ""Twin Gables,"" named for Joyce and Joan. Joyce graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she met her future husband Edgar Parminter through a singing group.
Ed and Joyce were married at the Pres House in Madison in May 1950. They began their married life in Dixon, Illinois and Ed's career took them to Juneau, Wisconsin and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where their son David was born in 1956. They then settled in Madison in 1957, living first on Stevens Street and then Shorewood Hills for 40 years.
In Joyce's active years she was very involved in the Village of Shorewood Hills. She volunteered at the Shorewood School library and was an EMT for many years. She was also in the Village garden club and worked on numerous projects. She formed many close friendships through these activities. Joyce always had her hands in the dirt with a love of gardening and flowers formed in her youth. She was also involved with the Sunday school at First Baptist Church. Joyce was a collector and had an array of shells from trips to Florida and rocks gathered in the mountains of Colorado. Joyce enjoyed various pets as well from her childhood onward, including many Siamese and Himalayan cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Carol, and her husband Ed. She is survived by her son David (Barbara) of Madison, sister Joan of Mauston, Wisconsin, and sister Jean of Berkeley, California.
The family wishes to recognize the staff at Middleton Village, who were Joyce's extended family caring for her during the years she lived there.
