MADISON- Judith A. Gaskell, age 77, of Madison passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Agrace Hospice Care. She was born on May 18, 1938 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Clarence and Florinne (White) Wilger. She married James C. Gaskell on February 13, 1960 in Elkhorn.
Judith was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a gifted writer, who loved to write poetry. Judith wrote for the State Journal, Isthmus, Take Your Character to Dinner, the Arboretum newsletter and had many poems published. Judy had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing for many years with the Madison Symphony Choir. She also sang as one of the "Lemon Sisters" and tap danced at the Edgefest Follies. In Judith's later years, she was a mentor for women from alcoholic families and also in alcoholic marriages.
Judith is survived by the love of her life, Jim; children, Lee Ann (Paul) Walters, Kate Mickus (John) and Timothy (Jane) Gaskell; Grandchildren, Cameron Walters, Hannah Walters, Emily Mickus, Sara (Aaron) Berg and Travis Gaskell; Great Grandchildren, Graham and Selah Berg; sister-in-law, JoAnn Hanaway; brother-in-law, Thomas Coblentz; and many nieces and nephews.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara.
A memorial service will be held at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave, Madison on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Judith's name to the Salvation Army, Second Harvest food bank or Nature Conservancy.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice Care for their loving and gentle care during the last few weeks of Judith's life.
