DARLINGTON - Judy Schwartz, age 83, of Darlington, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 after a short stay at The Atrium Care Center in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. She was born on July 6, 1935, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Deone Rabe. She grew up in Middleton and belonged to Middleton United Church of Christ for many years. She graduated from Middleton High School in 1953.
She married Emery Stluka on December 22, 1956 and together they raised 4 children, Dan, Laurie (Greg) Stolen, Dave (Rena), and Anne. She received a teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1957, and taught elementary school at Gompers and Midvale Schools in Madison for several years.
On August 6, 1989, she married Emmett Schwartz and they resided in Darlington, Wi. She was a talented seamstress and worked at Stretch & Sew Fabrics in Madison for many years. Her business, Calico Cabin, specialized in period clothing that has been worn by fur trade era reenactors at Rendezvous worldwide.
Judy and her husband Emmett were dog lovers, and for a time raised Shetland Sheepdogs that brought joy to many families around the country. She also had a cleaning company that had many satisfied customers, and in her retirement years, worked seasonally at Lands End in Dodgeville in the embroidery department.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Gloria Marks.
She is survived by her former husband and her 4 children. Seven grandchildren, Michael Stluka (Sydney), Lindsey (Brody), Cameron Stluka, Maggie (Jacob) Collier, Grace , Alex, Kayla Stolen, and her sister Janet (Bill) Kuepper. She is also survived by her husband Emmett and his 6 children, Wally, Roger (Roxanne), David, Marcia (Dave) Gratz, Sherry (Pat Neumaier), and Julie (Shawn) Miller, 11 step-grandchildren, Rachel (Nick) Reichling, Reid, Dakota and Trenton Schwartz, Dan (Kerbee) Gratz, Heather Gratz (Andy Bellamy), Jenna Gratz, John Jones, Kiara, Kerstin, and Kylie Miller, and great-grandson, Owen Reichling. Further survived by many nieces and nephews, friends, and her dog, Ladybug.
She always did the best she could and will be missed by many.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
