Madison - Judy M. Patterson, age 80, passed away December 24, 2020, at UW Hospital of natural causes.

Judy Ann Mergen was born on December 27, 1939, in Madison, to Phillip N. and Selma M. (Bade) Mergen. She graduated from Madison West High in 1957 and attended the University of Wisconsin.

Judy married Robert G. (Bob) Patterson on October 7, 1961; they were married for 51 years and had two daughters, Zoe and Tani. Judy was always very proud of her daughters and now also her “grandgirls,” Josie, Lexi and Cami. They all brought her much joy and she loved family gatherings.

Judy worked at Madison Chamber of Commerce and at several positions at the University of Wisconsin through the years. Some of her favorite things included their five Schipperke dogs, her cats, reading, camping and travel, and the family cottage on Lake Holcombe, Wisconsin, as well as time spent with good friends. She always referred to her work on the Planning Committees for the Class of 57’s many reunions as a “labor of love.” Judy and Bob were avid UW hockey fans and treasured the many friends made through this interest.

Judy is survived by her daughters, Zoe (Tim) Miller and Tani (Jeff) Nate; and granddaughters, Josie Miller, Lexi Nate and Cami Nate. She is further survived by nephews, Christopher Gross and Ryan Westerberg and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2013, her parents, Phil and Selma Mergen and her sister, Kay Mergen; also her in-laws, Hugh and Ruth Patterson.

In recognition of the dangers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no services until it is safe for people to gather again.

Memorials will be given to New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue,Inc.( nbstr.org ) & the Dane County Humane Society in honor of her love for animals.
