Julius Murray Marks

September 12, 1914 — July 30, 2011

MADISON- Julius Murray Marks, age 96, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Ingleside Nursing home in Mt. Horeb. He was born on September 12, 1914 in Madison, Wisconsin to Leora and Cyril Marks. He attended Wisconsin High School, and the University of Wisconsin. He married the love of his life, Virginia Smith, on August 22, 1942. They were married 53 years. Murray had an early career in finance, and concluded his career working in administration for veteran's affairs for the University of Wisconsin Madison. He retired in 1980. In retirement he took up the art of stained class, making windows and lamps for local churches, family, and friends. Also in retirement, he loved visiting mountain ranges in Europe, Canada, and the U.S. He was a member of Divine Savior United Methodist Church. Survivors include his sons Randall (Linda) Marks of Verona, and Murray Marks of Taos, New Mexico; his daughter Holly (Phil) Smith of Stevens Point; his brother John Sugden of Florida; his grandchildren Thomas (Mandy) Marks of Verona, Russell Marks of New York, New York, Clayton Smith of Madison, Wisconsin, Lars (Kelly) Smith of Stevens Point, Grace Marks of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Travis Marks of San Francisco, CA, and Joaquin Marks of Taos, New Mexico; his great grandchildren Tully Smith, and Lillian and Charlotte Marks. Other survivors include nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Europe. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. John Ewalt and Ingleside Nursing home staff in Mt. Horeb for their outstanding care and kindness for Murray. The family would also like to thank his special church ""grandson"", Brett Sergenian for his caring visits. A memorial service will be held at Divine Savior United Methodist Church, 5702 South Hill Drive, Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, August 5th at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Inc., at 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wisconsin, 53711.
