June Hanson Matoushek

Black Earth-June Hanson Matoushek, age 99, passed away on September 9, 2023.   She was born June 9, 1924, to Cora and Helmer Hanson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  After graduating with Eau Claire High School Class of 1942, and earning her bachelor’s degree from Eau Claire Teacher’s College in 1945, she taught at Dudgeon School in Madison.  She transferred to Midvale School a year after it opened.  Teaching at Midvale, where Paul Olson was principal, was a wonderful experience.

June married Marty Matoushek on June 21, 1952.  In 1970, June and Marty moved to Door County, Wisconsin where they enjoyed operating Cabin Craft Shoppes.  They returned to Madison in 1990.  They were charter members of Midvale Lutheran Church.

June is survived by her brother Jerry (Sharon) Hanson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marty in 2008; brothers, Roy (Mary) and Harvey (Alvina).

Services are pending at this time.  Memorials in June’s name may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or a charity of your choice.
