Karen Zamis Voss

Karen Zamis Voss passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024 at the age of 68. She was born on March 4, 1956 in the Chicago area and was the middle child of Robert and Janina Zamis.

She was a 1974 graduate of Greendale High School. She attended the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating in 1978. She was an avid athlete in her younger years, excelling in basketball, volleyball, softball, track, and especially tennis.

Karen worked as a registered nurse at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee for 43 years. She met her long-standing friend group when she started working at the hospital shortly after college graduation.

Karen’s lifelong dream was to be a mom, and considered raising her two daughters (Kirsten and Katie) to be her greatest accomplishment. The three of them cherished their time spent together and were often referred to as “The Voss Girls.”

Karen’s favorite pastime in life was spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed giving thoughtful gifts, and would often use her creative abilities to make handcrafted items for loved ones. The simple things in life that brought her the most joy were sunsets, flowers (especially roses), good coffee, and fine chocolates.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Kaitlyn (Luke) Kottemann and Kirsten (Matthew) Homstad; newborn grandson Jonah Homstad; sister Christine (Ken) Brown; sister-in-law Amy Boyd; niece Natalie (Baron) Zamis; nephew Alec (Emma) Brown; and many other relatives and dear friends. 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Janina Zamis, her brother Thomas Zamis, and other extended family members.

Visitation will be from 11:30am – 2:00pm on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Cress Funeral & Cremation Service, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to begin at 2:00pm.
